Language is not a barrier, this is certainly so for dogs. Komugi "speaks" Japanese but we had no trouble telling him that he's having a vacation just like his mom! We've enjoyed having Komugi stay with us and have him cope with being away from his mom. He's making his way home to the land of the rising sun. Be good when you are there!
